South Carolina Leads the SEC
on 2009 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A total of 883 student-athletes were named to the 2009 Southeastern Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, Wednesday by SEC Commissioner Mike Slive.

The University of South Carolina topped the list with 114 student-athletes on the spring academic roster. The University of Georgia was next with 99 honorees. The University of Alabama was next in line with 90 student-athletes honored.

Hartsville, S.C. - Coker College baseball players, Trey Lynch (Florence, SC) and Matt Ammons (Chester, SC) have been selected to the 2009 Southern Collegiate Baseball League (SCBL) South All-Star Team. They will represent their SCBL team, the Carolina Chaos, on Saturday, July 11 in the All-Star game at Russell C. King Field at Wofford College.

SPARTANBURG, SC – The Southern Conference and SportSouth today announced the 2009 Southern Conference football telecast schedule. Branded SoCon Saturdays, the Southern Conference football schedule on SportSouth includes eight football games and features all nine conference schools. Former Super Bowl player and coach Sam Wyche and play-by-play announcer Tom Werme return for their third season in the SportSouth booth for the SoCon Saturdays package.   

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern Men's Golf Coach Mike Wilson announced his fall and spring schedules for the 2009-10 school year, Thursday. The Bucs will once again host their Fall Invitational at Crowfield Golf and Country Club.

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University softball coach Stacey Vallee has announced that former South Florence High School standout Brittany Cannon will be transferring from Santa Fe College to FMU and will play for the Patriots this coming season.

FAYETTEVILLE- This is just getting ridiculous. Columbia Blowfish starting pitcher Tyler Christman gave up only two hits and no earned runs Wednesday night. But he still got the loss. SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced on Wednesday the Academic All-Conference teams for the 2009 spring season. A total of 320 student-athletes, representing all twelve Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team. Wofford College had 22 individual honorees.

SC Sports Source.Com has confirmed that Alshon Jeffery of Calhoun County High School, in St. Matthews, SC has been cleared by the University of South Carolina to attend school this fall.  Jeffery is considered by many to be one of, if not the crown jewel of the Gamecocks 2009 recruiting class.  As a big play receiver, Jeffery has a chance to see the field early this year for the Gamecocks, as coach Steve Spurrier has been desperately searching for someone to fill Sidney Rice’s shoes since he left.

Charleston, SC – The New York Yankees announced that RiverDogs right-hander Casey Erickson was traded today to the Pittsburgh Pirates as part of the deal that sent infielder/outfielder Eric Hinske to the New York Yankees.   To complete the deal, Pittsburgh also acquired minor league outfielder Eric Fryer while the Yankees received cash considerations.
