Wofford Football Continues Summer Workouts
Wofford Football Continues Summer Workouts
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With the start of the second summer school session on July 12, over forty football student-athletes are on the Wofford College campus preparing for the upcoming season.
On Mondays and Fridays, the players lift and run, while on Wednesday the team lifts only. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, a speed and acceleration running program has been implemented. Two groups are offered each day, one that begins at 6:30 a.m. and another at 5:00 p.m.
“We have a great turnover of over 40 guys who are on campus training five days a week,” said Wofford director of strength and conditioning Todd Riedel. “There is an adjustment to the new program and they have been adapting well to it. We have been focusing more on injury prevention in the training and feel that this program will help them in the upcoming season. The guys here are in great shape and ready to go.”
“It seems like every year we get a larger turnout and this year a lot of the freshmen have stepped up and come in early as well,” said senior safety Tommy Irvin. “Coach Riedel has been pushing us to the limit and everyone has been working hard. Everybody is starting to get to know each other and we are really developing a great chemistry. We are ready and pumped to get this season started.”
“This summer the workouts have been great,” said senior running back Mike Rucker. “We have a good workout plan – it is not going to be easy but everyone is working hard and nobody is quitting. As long as we keep that attitude, we should be back to the old t-dog way. It takes a lot to be out here in the summer. With this many guys out here, it means a lot. We are going to go into camp in better shape, so we can focus more on football and our opponents.”
The team will report to campus on August 8, with the first day of practice scheduled for Monday, August 9. The season begins with a road trip on September 4 to face Ohio University.
